Bicycle scheme celebrates two million hires

A BICYCLE hire service in Glasgow, operated by the city council, has reached the milestone of its two millionth hire.
The scheme – sponsored by energy company, Ovo – was launched in 2014 and currently boasts 1,159 bikes, 159 of which are electric.
Says an announcement from the city council, here: “Used both by commuters and leisure cyclists alike, the successful uptake of the initiative across the city, which includes e-bike availability, is a clear sign of the growing support for sustainable transport in Glasgow.
“There are 107 cycle hire stations across the city, almost half of which combine smartbike and e-bike hire facilities.
“Bikes are available 24 hours-a-day, and users can register and hire [here] within just a few minutes.”
