Call issued for public transport to be more affordable

A CALL has been issued, that pubic transport fares are made more affordable.

The call for more affordable bus and rail fares comes from a cross-party group at the Scottish Parliament, in response to a Scottish Government target of reducing car mileage in Scotland by 20 per cent by the year 2030.

Also, says the cross-party group on Sustainable Transport at the Scottish Parliament, here: “Before the end of [this year], the Scottish Government should set clear and realistic timeframes for the implementation of traffic reduction policies and begin projecting the expected traffic impact of each policy and report on its progress against the target.”

The group adds that is important to consider the ‘equalities’ impacts of any proposed policies on groups such as disabled people and people facing ‘transport poverty’.
