Community hub and civic square among the top winners of Scots architecture awards

A COMMUNITY hub in North Lanarkshire and a civic square in the East Lothian town of Prestonpans have been each awarded the more prestigious category prizes in an annual awards ceremony celebrating architecture and design.

The Scottish Design Awards – organised by the publisher of Scotland-based Urban Realm magazine – last night whittled down entries from 120 organisations, to choose – among others – the winners of the Architecture Grand Prix title and also the architecture judging panel’s Chair’s title.

The Prestonpans civic square prize was for the Chair’s Award (it also took the Regeneration title), while the community hub took the Architecture Grand Prix gong (it also took the Education Building or Project title).

The architecture judging panel was chaired by Heather Claridge, director of design at the Scottish Government agency, Architecture & Design Scotland.

The architecture prizes, below, comprised half of the prizes being doled out by the Scottish Design Awards, the other half – to be found here – being for design.
