Cycle path plan takes a significant step forward

A CONTRACTOR has been approved to deliver a walking, wheeling and cycling pathway connecting the west of Edinburgh with the east of the city.

Says a city council announcement (here): “The £13m City Centre West to East Cycle Link and Street Improvements Project (CCWEL) will connect Roseburn to Leith Walk with a safe and direct cycle route as well as significantly enhancing streets for those walking, wheeling and spending time there.”

And the announcement goes on to say: “Today (Thursday), [the] Finance and Resources Committee approved recommendations to award the construction contract to Balfour Beatty, with work on the scheme set to begin in January 2022 and lasting approximately 18 months.

“Balfour Beatty, who were also appointed for the pre-construction phase for CCWEL, including the required site investigations, were selected using the Scape Procure Scotland ‘National Civil Engineering and Infrastructure Framework – Scotland’ framework agreement.”
