Edinburgh apartment block recognised by sustainability awards

AN apartment block in the Canongate area of Edinburgh has been recognised in a long list of awards showcasing ‘exemplary sustainable building projects, innovative products and forward-thinking initiatives’.

Work on the block – one of 26 entries long-listed in the fourth annual awards run by the Alliance for Sustainable Building Products (ASBP) – has included reinstating the original colour scheme, technical concrete conservation work, and energy efficiency measures such as insulation, ventilation and window replacements.

The long list is to be shortened at the beginning of next year, to be followed by a winners’ ceremony on February 17.

The work on the block – designed by the late Sir Basil Spence – has been overseen by Glasgow-based John Gilbert Architects.
