Funding plan hoping to encourage more tree planting

FUNDING to encourage farmers and crofters plant more trees is to be given a boost following proposed Scottish Parliament legislation.
Says an announcement, by the Scottish Government, here: “Scotland’s forests and woodlands cover around 1.45 million hectares, which is 19 per cent of the country’s land area. These forests are home to 172 protected species, generate £1 billion to the economy each year and support 25,000 jobs.”
Should the plan be approved by MSPs, it would see small woodlands “approved under the Scottish Rural Development Programme since 2015″, henceforth categorised as Ecological Focus Areas, and therefore eligible for the proposed funding.
