Further pledge made to protect peatlands

PROTECTING Scotland’s peatlands and wetlands has been again identified as a key Scottish Government objective, with a Scottish Government secretary pledging as much in a visit overseas.
Rural Affairs Secretary, Mairi Gougeon, was visiting Brussels, in Belgium, for EU Green Week.
Says the Scottish Government, here: “[The Secretary] has announced that the protection of peatlands and wetlands will be a condition in Scotland’s future support model for farming and land management.”
She is quoted, as saying: “Our vision for Scottish agriculture, published last year, sets out how we will transform support for farming and food production as well as our aim to become a global leader in sustainable and regenerative agriculture.”
