Glasgow’s retail prospects boosted by gift card scheme

A GIFT card scheme, designed to invigorate the retail prospects for Glasgow, has become the UK’s largest of its kind – according to the organisation behind it.

Says Scotland’s Towns Partnership, Glasgow’s Love Local gift card is now – at 700 businesses accepting the card towards payment – twice the previous record high (operated in York).

Says a STP announcement, here: “The surge in Glasgow businesses signing up to accept the card follows a decision by Glasgow City Council to provide financial support to 85,000 lower-income households – providing them with cards pre-loaded with £105 each.”

It adds: “Funding for the council project has come via a £9.45m Covid Economic Recovery Funding package awarded to the council by the Scottish Government.”

It also says: “STP is working alongside Perth-based fintech Miconex, which is administering and delivering individual gift card programmes available in each of Scotland’s 32 local authority regions.”
