Leith named the world’s fourth ‘coolest’ neighbourhood

THE Edinburgh district of Leith has been named the fourth ‘coolest’ neighbourhood in the world.
The accolade – conferred by the global media brand, Time Out, which covers events, entertainment and culture – follows a similar exercise conducted in 2018 (here), when Leith was placed at 24.
That 2018 survey featured 50 neighbourhoods; this one 49. Says Time Out, in an introduction to this year’s results (here): “We polled 27,000 city-dwellers and asked local experts to rank the greatest places for food, fun, culture and community.”
No.1 in the list is Nørrebro, Copenhagen, followed by Andersonville, Chicago, and Jongno 3-ga, Seoul.
Time Out’s praise of Leith included its eating and drinking offering, plus the restoration of several buildings.
No other Scots neighbourhoods make the list. UK-wide, Dalston, in London, is in, at 13, as are Ancoats, Manchester, at 20, Kemptown, Brighton, at 26, and Ouseburn, Newcastle, at 29.
