Nature restoration among aims of proposed agriculture legislation

NATURE restoration and biodiversity protection have been identified as a key objective in proposed legislation aimed at Scotland’s agricultural sector.

Views are being sought on a proposed Agriculture Bill, which the Scottish Government describes, here, as seeking to make Scotland “a global leader in sustainable and regenerative agriculture”.

Adds the Scottish Government: “[Our] climate change plan has committed to reducing agricultural emissions [of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere] by 31 per cent by 2032.”

Other objectives include:

* high-quality food production;

* ensuring a fair income for farmers; and

* fostering knowledge and innovation.

The consultation – here – ends on November 21.
