Views sought on the possible regulation of electricians

A DEADLINE of February 12 2021 has been set for views on the extent to which electricians should be regulated.
As things stand, pretty much anyone can call themselves an ‘electrician’, leading to concerns about sub-standard and potentially dangerous work being carried out in people’s homes and work places.
A consultation is being carried out by the Scottish Government, which says it is considering “whether regulatory measures are required to give greater protection to the public and reduce the level of poor electrical workmanship by a persistent rogue trader element”.
The electrician’s representative body, SELECT, has welcomed the consultation (read more, here).
It says: “SELECT has been leading a long-running campaign with other leading industry bodies to make sure that those who work in the industry do so in a safe and competent manner.”
